International Tiger Day

Today is International Tiger Day so to celebrate the biggest of all Asian cats, I sketched this and my daughter coloured it in and named our tigers Ariel, for the very protective looking mother, and Cookie for the baby. And why not.

All six species of wild tiger populations - Bengal, Indochinese, Malayan, Siberian, South China and Sumatran are endangered due to poaching and habitat loss from intensive logging and development, but the good news is that wild tiger populations are now on the rise after a century of decline (https://www.worldwildlife.org/species/tiger). India's wild tigers have increased by 33% in recent years due to careful conservation efforts so that now there are 2,967 Indian tigers, which is up from 2,226 from four years ago (https://www.steppestravel.com/holiday-types/wildlife/big-cats/tiger-safaris/).
