Celebrating Simba

In the late 1970s 100,000 lions were roaming Africa, but today there are only 20,000 left in the wild as a result of trophy hunting and habitat destruction (https://www.wwf.org.uk/learn/wildlife/african-lions). To honour all that these incredible animals are for World Lion Day today, I sketched this, and my daughter coloured it in with pencils and oil pastels - that was the messy, but entertaining part - whilst learning about their conservation.

Did you know you that these beautiful creatures have the loudest roar of all the big cats and can be heard from five miles away (https://www.natgeokids.com/uk/discover/animals/general-animals/10-lion-facts/)? How impressive is that? Long may the plains of Africa be alive with the sound of Simba's song.

This picture was inspired by a stunning photo taken by David Yarrow https://davidyarrow.photography/collections/lion-king/. If interested in owning this picture as an art print, please visit my store https://www.doodleswithmydaughter.co.uk/shop
